Is my washing machine worth fixing?

Often it is. Pumps, door locks, belts, hoses and valves cost far less than a new machine. We tell you honestly when it is not worth it.

Usually worth repairing

The machine is under about eight to ten years old.

The fault is a pump, door lock, belt, hose, inlet valve, seal or shock absorber.

It is a good quality machine from a brand like Miele, Bosch, Asko or Speed Queen.

Often not worth repairing

Drum bearings have failed on an older budget machine.

The tub is cracked or the drum is damaged.

The repair costs more than half the price of a similar new machine.

How we help you decide

We find the fault first and give you the full price before any work starts. If a new machine makes more sense, we say so and you only pay for the visit.

Questions

How long should a washing machine last?

Many last around 10 years. Heavy use shortens that, and good quality machines can last much longer.

Are bearings worth replacing?

On a good quality machine, often yes. On a budget machine, often no. We tell you the price first.

Do you sell washing machines?

No. We only repair them, so our advice is not tied to selling you a new one.
